Brian Rascon

Brian Rascon

Brian Rascon has been the conductor of the Seattle Civic Band since February, 2018.

Brian returned home to the Pacific Northwest after living in Bogota, Colombia, and working for an El Sistema organization called Fundacion Batuta where he served as an operational coordinator and faculty artist for the representative orchestra of the organization. While at Fundacion Batuta, Brian had the opportunity to work with many students and young adults, and conducted wind, brass and percussion rehearsals and concerts all over the city of Bogota. He also performed as Principal Trumpet with the orchestra and served as an administrative head.

Prior to his move to Colombia, Brian lived in Philadelphia, where he received his Master’s Degree in Trumpet Performance from Temple University, studying with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Upon graduation, he began work for an El Sistema program, Play On, Philly!, which provided after-school musical instruction to students who otherwise would not have access to it. At POP, Brian served as both a teacher at member of the administrative team.

Brian received his Bachelor’s Degree in music education from Central Washington University and grew up in Olympia. He is currently the Band Director at Kentwood High School in Covington, assuming the position in the fall of 2017 after relocating back to the area. He is enjoying the process of getting to know Seattle as a new resident, and loves spending time cooking and eating with his wife.
